Fandom has its own ways of being expressed- some patrons emulate the behaviour of their idols, some prefer showing it off at their house and office, with posters, while a few go a step ahead to wear a picture of their favourites! This is often the case with fans of Bollywood celebrities and sports legends but this year this patriotic expression has widely pervaded the political scenario of India.

As the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 are fast approaching, Indians have taken the activity of expressing their political preferences to the next level by sporting apparels having the face of their preferred leader. Printed Sarees with the face of PM Narendra Modi have been around in the market for quite some time but given the series of mixed reactions about the performance of the ruling party and the promotional activities of the Congress, sarees having images of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi have also been floating around.

Popularly known as Priyanka sarees, Rahul saris and Modi sarees- these digital printed drapes have been witnessing growing demand from their staunch supporters as well as from women inclined towards such attention-seeking fads. It seems the Modi fever and the Congress fever has strongly invaded the fashion world too!

Where will this trend lead to?

Politicisation of apparels is not new - kurtis, stoles and caps were even earlier worn by supporters of political parties yet current trends of such digital printed saris have accentuated the prominence of political views. Now the question is that- is this just another fad- or will it socially cause polarization of opinions and work in favour of leaders? It seems that the answer will only unfold with time!
