What is Faux Chiffon Material?

Chiffon is a light-weight and sheer fabric, woven with alternate S- and Z- twist yarns. The slightly rough and stretched fabric is made using silk threads and is therefore very high priced. While pure chiffon is used only in high-end designer outfits, the market these days has a good low cost replacement of the fabric having similar finish. This relatively new fabric made using synthetic yarns like nylon and polyester and is called faux chiffon. This fabric resembles an intricately woven net and is slightly transparent.

Sarees made with Faux Chiffon:

The smoothness of the fabric give a beautiful flutter to the pallu of a chiffon saree, thus giving it a sensational appeal. Chiffon sarees are often adorned by the female lead in romantic Bollywood songs.

The fabric being very soft is not suitable for heavy embroidery. It can be used to make printed sarees and lace-work drapes. Saris made with this fabric have a shimmery finish and look contemporary.

Fabric Care:

Hand-wash or gentle machine wash is ideal if you’re washing the sari at home, else dry clean is also a good way to ensure a longer life for such delicate fabrics. Avoid keeping the outfit soaked for long in water to prevent colour-bleed and fabric damage.
